The meteorological private sector is still very young in western Canada and many public and private sector companies are just beginning to understand how much they depend on weather and how much can be done to minimize their exposure to associated risks and costs. If your operation is affected by weather on a safety, financial or logistics basis, meteorologists can help reduce your risk exposure and costs; the greater the impact of weather on your operation, the more value our services will have.  So, instead of telling you what exactly we do in detail (which varies from client to client anyway), here are some examples of how we are currently working with our clients.  If any of these examples have similarities with your situation or you have any other questions or comments: Drop us a line or call!

AValanche control and snow safety

20100416_toba_160.jpgMWS is the exclusive private supplier of weather services and training to the Canadian Avalanche Center/Association and its members.  MWS interacts via web and phone to ensure public and private safety of any winter mountain operations operating in B.C. or western Alberta. From power line construction safety to Parks Canada road closure operations: Professional winter operations working in avalanche terrain rely on MWS for their short and long term weather information through a set of customized services. Snow safety teams of the biggest Canadian Ski resorts from Banff to Whistler rely on MWS weather services (obtained through the CAA) for their avalanche control planning and work.

special events

Working in different languages and doing well with international media conferences, tense coaches and FIS officials can be the bigger part of an assignment.

Film projects

burstall pass2.jpgOne of the strength of MWS is the intrinsic knowledge of remote terrain in western Canada and its weather. Film shoots like GI Joe, Superman and Jason Bourne as well as small scale documentary shoots rely on MWS for their crew safety, logistics planning, mountain rigging, site prep as well as filming operations in some of the most remote locations of western Canada.

engineering and other projects

HylandPostFire.jpgMWS has consulted many engineering, aviation, mining and governmental clients on a project basis. They include: Revision of weather related super tanker safety of a northern pipeline proposal, site selection for aviation construction companies, aviation and logistic support for remediation burns, forensic assessments for the BC Forest Practices Board, data supply to the BC River Forecast Center and BC Hydro as well as aviation access and operation support for remote mining operations in Yukon Territory and BC.
